Movement Festival 2026: Detroit's Electronic Music Weekend

The Festival

Movement Electronic Music Festival returns to Hart Plaza, Memorial Day weekend 2026. For three days, the birthplace of techno honors its legacy while pushing the genre forward — six stages along the Detroit River, 100+ artists, and a crowd that understands the music's roots.

Why Movement Matters

This is not just another festival. Detroit invented techno. Juan Atkins, Derrick May, Kevin Saunderson — the Belleville Three — created a sound in this city that changed global music. Movement is both a celebration of that history and a platform for what comes next.

What to Know

  • When: Memorial Day Weekend (May 23-25, 2026)
  • Where: Hart Plaza, downtown Detroit riverfront
  • Tickets: GA ~$200 for 3-day pass. VIP available.
  • Lineup: Announced in March/April. Expect a mix of Detroit legends, international headliners, and underground talent.
  • The After-Parties

Movement's official after-parties run until dawn and often surpass the festival itself:

  • TV Lounge — The intimate Hamtramck venue that books artists who would headline anywhere else
  • Spot Lite — Detroit's premier underground club
  • Marble Bar — Industrial space, world-class sound system
  • Magic Stick / Majestic Theatre — Multi-room venue complex for the late-night crowd
  • Beyond the Festival

Use the weekend to explore Detroit's food scene:

  • Selden Standard — Farm-to-table in Midtown
  • Takoi — Thai-inspired small plates in Corktown
  • Grey Ghost — New American with creative cocktails

  • Detroit WKND Movement packages include festival passes, hotel blocks, and after-party access.
